With the close of the USport basketball season, a number of Kingston Impact graduates received accolades this season.

Of special note, 3 Kingston Impact graduates were included in the 4 nominees for the prestigious Ken Shields Award for Student-Athlete Community Service:

  • Tanner Graham (Queen's University)
  • Duncan Lambert (Bishop's University)
  • Brent Martindale (St. Mary's University)

Tanner Graham received the award but special congratulations to all 3 nominees. This appears to be the first time since the award was  first handed out in 1994 that 3 nominees came from not only the same club but the same team!

Tanner joins Vincent Dufort (Smith Falls) as the only  Kingston Impact Alumnae  to receive this national level award.

Graham also finishes his career at Queen's as a five time Academic All-Canadian, third all time Queen's scorer, and along with his brother Jesse were key contributors to the overall Queen's and Kingston community.

On the Women's side, Evie Streight became the first female Impact player to earn a gold medal at the USport championship. A 4th year senior at McMaster University, Evie's team defeated Laval in the gold medal game .

In the bronze medal game, Sarah and Mary Besselink along with Anne Carr helped the Ottawa Gee Gee's Women secure third place with a close win over the University of Saskatchewan.

During Sarah Besslink's career at Ottawa U. , she overcame 2 significant knee injuries to end  her career on a high note being named an OUA 2nd team all-star and a USport bronze medalist.

Also at National's, Nathan Culbreath finished his USport career as a member of the Ryerson Rams Men's team, who also won the bronze medal at the Men's Nationals in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

As a club, we are very proud of the accomplishments of not only these graduates but of all our athletes who have moved on contribute on the court, in the classroom and in the communities.
