The Kingston Impact Basketball Club is proud to announce the appointment of Matteke (Muddy) McAuslan as its inaugural Executive Director, a groundbreaking role for youth basketball organizations in Ontario. McAuslan will officially begin her tenure as ED on January 1st, 2026.
Founded in 2007, Kingston Impact has been committed to providing a basketball program that contributes to a long-term healthy and active lifestyle, developing fundamental skills and good sportsmanship while encouraging a passion for sport. The creation of this new leadership role marks an important step forward in strengthening that mission and building a sustainable future for youth basketball in the region.
“This is a historic moment for Kingston Impact,” said Jason Reynolds, Club President. “Since our founding, we’ve dreamed of the day when the club could bring in a full-time leader to guide our growth. Muddy’s experience, energy, and passion for sport make her the perfect person to help us achieve our long-term vision and expand opportunities for youth in Kingston.”
A New Era of Leadership
As Executive Director, McAuslan will oversee the strategic, operational, and financial management of the club. Her priorities will include developing and implementing Kingston Impact’s long-term strategic plan, strengthening program delivery, enhancing financial sustainability through fundraising and partnerships, and exploring future facility opportunities to support continued growth.
“It is an incredible opportunity to serve as the first Executive Director of Kingston Impact,” said Muddy. “Basketball has been a constant in my life as an athlete, official, and administrator, and I am excited to contribute to the growth of a club that has already made such a positive impact in our community. This sport has shaped the trajectory of my life in so many ways. My hope is that we can get every kid in this city who wants to play, playing basketball.”
A graduate of Simon Fraser University and a decorated Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) basketball athlete, Muddy brings more than a decade of experience in provincial, nonprofit, and university sport management. Her career reflects a deep commitment to fostering community engagement through sport, strategic planning, and event excellence. She has held leadership roles with Alberta Golf and the Heart and Stroke Foundation, where she built partnerships, coordinated large-scale championships and events, and engaged volunteers across diverse communities.
Most recently, as Coordinator, Event Delivery and Engagement with Queen’s University Athletics, Muddy oversaw the successful operations of major national and provincial championships, including the 2023 Vanier Cup. She managed the delivery of more than 100 varsity sporting events each year, mentoring a team of over 75 student staff while cultivating strong relationships with community partners. Her ability to translate strategic vision into meaningful community impact positions her exceptionally well to lead Kingston Impact into its next era of growth and sustainability.
In addition to her professional expertise, Muddy has served the basketball community as both a Kingston Area Secondary School Athletic Association (KASSAA) and Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) referee. Her blend of athletic experience, event management, and community engagement makes her an ideal fit to lead Kingston Impact into its next chapter.
“This is a major investment in the future of youth sport in Kingston,” said Alfie DeMelo, Coordinator of Impact Academy. “Having dedicated leadership will help us grow basketball in our community, make our programs more accessible, and ensure that every young person who wants to play has a place to do so. It’s an exciting time for the club and for the families we serve.”
Building on Momentum
As part of this next phase of growth, Kingston Impact will debut the Kingston Impact Legacy Tournament this spring — a reimagined version of the former MEGA Tournament. The rebrand reflects the club’s continued evolution and its commitment to delivering meaningful, community-centered basketball experiences that create a lasting legacy on and beyond the court.
