Kingston's Aaliyah Edwards will represent Canada at the FIBA World U17 Women's Championship in Minsk, Belarus

Kingston's Aaliyah Edwards will once again represent Canada this summer on the international stage. Aaliyah was selected this week to Canada's U17 Women's National team.

The Frontenac S.S. student last year played for Canadian U16 Women's team that finished 2nd at the FIBA U16 Women's America's tournament in Argentina.

This summer she will be traveling with her team to Minsk, Belarus to participate in the FIBA World U17 Women's Championship against the best U17 women's teams in the world.

This has been quite a year for the 16 year old who followed up last summer's international silver medal, with high school championships at the KASSAA, EOSSAA and OFSAA levels.

Then during the club season was a first team all-star on Kingston Impact U19 Junior Girls team that won their first ever medal (bronze) during the Junior Elite League of Ontario (JUEL) season.

Her Impact co-star, Maggie Besselink, was also invited to the National team training camp. She will not be traveling to Belarus but instead will represent Ontario at the upcoming 2018 National Championships in Fredericton, New Brunswick in August.
